Breast Engorgement Tips

So I've just returned from the hospital after delivering the baby.
On the 2nd day home. My boobs got really swollen and painful out of a sudden.
As the day progressed, the pain and swelling got worse and I was so helpless.

I wished I was better prepared to handle this and had done my homework on engorgement earlier.

This article from Medela helped a lot:

Basically you need to prepare the following:
1. Cold Compresses on standby
> I bought 2 freezer friendly bags of green peas

2. Hot Shower or Hot Towels

3. Breast Pump or Baby Who Can Latch On Succesfully

4. Regular Pumping and Expressing Out of Milk from Your Breasts to Relieve the Pressure Built Up and Milk Inside. I started doing this after every 3 hours. And slowly the swelling and pain subsided.
............................

STEP 1: 3 to 5 min Hot Shower Or Hot Towel On Boob To Stimulate Milk Flow

STEP 2: Gently hand massage to check if milk is coming out

STEP 3: Use the breast pump to begin expressing out milk (15 to 30 mins)

STEP 4: Use Cold Compress on Boob for 10 minutes to reduce swelling.

STEP 5: Repeat Step 1 to Step 4 after 3 hours.

And if you're still experiencing unbearable pain and swelling despite doing these steps, it's time to look for a specialist post par-tum  masseuse to step in to help ease the blocked ducts on your breasts.
